Facial Enhancements and Contouring

Facial Enhancements and Contouring

Ever wanted a v-shaped face, high cheekbones, sharper chin, and taller nose bridge but afraid of the costs, risks, and prolonged downtime involved with invasive surgery? Thanks to the advancement of medical aesthetics, there is no need to go under the knife anymore. These enhancements can be achieved through a combination of medical aesthetic treatments that are safe, effective, and have zero or minimal downtime.

Such aesthetic procedures to enhance one’s feature is called 3D projection. This is when aesthetic doctors use a combination of therapies like Botox®, dermal fillers, and sometimes even threadlifts to “project” and contour the face to achieve a desired result. Botox, for instance, can be applied to the jaw to achieve facial slimming and combined with dermal filler to the chin to create the highly desired v-shaped face.

What is Botox or botulinum neuromodulators

Names like Botox, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are brands of botulinum neuromodulators that are manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies. They are injected into the skin and work by temporarily paralysing the muscles that cause wrinkles. That is why you often hear of Botox being used to smoothen out wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

However, because of how Botox works, it is also used to relax the masseter muscles to slim down the rear part of the cheeks.

How does Botox work?

Botox injections work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that is connected to the muscles of the face. The muscles then become more relaxed. This is how it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, as well as give us an arched brow lift.

Our masseter muscles, which are the muscles that run from the cheek bone down to the lower jaw on both sides of the face, can become enlarged or bulging if there is frequent clenching or grinding of our teeth. This increased muscle bulk can result in an overly-square or masculine-looking jawline.

An injection of Botox to the masseter muscle relaxes the muscles, thereby reducing the bulge. This allows medical aesthetic doctors to achieve the v-face or v-shaped jawline made popular by Korean celebrities. And by injecting some dermal fillers to the chin and even the cheeks, medical aesthetic doctors can make the v-face even more chiselled and dramatic.

What are dermal fillers?

Ageing is inevitable and as we age, our body loses the collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid which give our face its youthful volume and suppleness. We also start to lose bone mass as we grow older, resulting in sagging skin and hollowness on our face which makes us look old and tired.

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, usually made of hyaluronic acid, which are injected beneath the skin to sculpt the face for more definition or help to restore skin and facial contours to their former youthful appearance.

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers treat age-related sagginess and wrinkles due to lax skin and facial volume loss. It plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles, and improve the appearance of scars.

It can also be used by medical aesthetic doctors to give a sharper and more refined definition to our facial features. This includes areas like the nose, cheeks, chin, and other parts of the face like our forehead to make our facial features more attractive without the trauma of plastic surgery.

We recommend that you consult our doctor who will assess your requirements and prescribe a treatment or a combination of treatments to achieve the desired result.
